One of Sherwood Forest's ancient oaks

The Woodland Festival was a celebration of Sherwood Forest’s Diamond Jubilee as it is 60 years since this amazing wildlife area was designated as a Site of Special Scientific Interest.

Our Tourist Information colleagues were very privileged to be part of the Festival  this weekend and received great feedback from visitors near and afar.  Everyone had a great time!

This proved to be a popular attraction with demonstrations and displays of traditional and modern day woodland management techniques which have shaped the Sherwood Forest of today.  Visitors explored the forest around the famous Major Oak – Robin Hood’s tree and met Bodgers, Windsor Chair makers, Charcoal Producers, Wood Turners, Archaeologists, Conservation Organisations and the Wild Man of the Woods, pictured below.
